The first major movement against the British Company's high handed rule ensued in the Revolt of 1857, also acknowledged by different historians as "Indian Mutiny" or "Sepoy Mutiny" or the "First War of Independence". After a year of upheaval and support of the East India Company's military personnel with British soldiers, the British defeated the uprising. This revolt, according to the historians of Modern India was also the results of many revolutionary activities led by Wahabi, Fraizi and numerous local uprisings culminated during the course of the British Imperialism. Even after 1857, these revolutionary activities against the British imperialism took place all around the Indian sub-continent. These revolutionary movements and uprisings along with other freedom fighters of India who struggle for the impendence of India like Rajaram Mohan Roy, Ishwarchand Vidyasagar, Vivekananda, Dadabhai Naoroji, Motilal Nehru, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Bipin Chandra Pal, Gangadhar Tilak, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru and several others forced the British to transfer the power into the Indian hands in 1947.
