The history of colonial era of British Raj started when the first officials of the British East India Company set ashore in India in 1602. Finally their interests finished to be strictly mercantile as they presumed more political roles and special interests in the ongoing rivalries among the rulers of India. When the exploitation of British India reached to its apex and culminated in the form of the Revolt of 1857 - the first uprising against the British Domination - the Crown took over the rules and India officially came to be a part of the vast British Empire. The Raj conciliated into ruling this vast land of Indian subcontinent till the Independence of India in 1947 when the country was finally transferred to the leaders of the freedom movement of India.
