On the banks of the mighty river Brahmaputra and ringed on the
other side by blue hills, lies city once known as Pragjyotishpura
or 'Light of the East' - now called Guwahati. Guwahati houses
the capital of Assam, It is the hub of air, rail & road
communications of the northeast. Now quite a busy airport, the
facilities at Guwahati are in the process of up gradation. The
rail services are also being improved with broad gauge having
been extended to lumding. Apart from industry, history and scenic

smallest river island in the world. Sukleswar temple is an indication of assimilation between Hindu and Buddhist
religions. Nabagraha Temple is a great center for the study of astrology and astronomy.

with three streams is set in idyllic surroundings. Hajo,
Sualkuchi, Chandubi, Bahirabkunda, Darrang,
Madan Kamdev, Barpeta, Batadrawa, Tezpur are other
important places near the city of Guwahati.
